Family S. Heart

The Family of the Sacred Heart of Jesus are the lay people who follow the spirituality of the “Little Daughters of the Sacred Heart of Jesus.”

In reality, the “Lay Family” preceded and was the foundation of our Congregation. In fact, the “Association of the practice of union with God for the triumph of the Sacred Heart,” founded and spread by the young Don Amilcare Boccio, brought together in a network of prayer and communion not only priests and nuns, but also lay people, especially girls from Catholic Action, so that they could be zealots of the Sacred Heart, spreading devotion and renewing their offering of themselves several times a day for the triumph of the Sacred Heart.

About twenty years ago, some lay people expressed the desire to live the spirituality of the Little Daughters of the Sacred Heart of Jesus and so groups arose that walk with us: in Italy, Romania, Peru and Madagascar.

The main mission of the Lay Family is the same as the Congregation:

“To go and lead everyone along the path of Love, strong, generous, sacrificial, but which always, always, in all manifestations, in all vicissitudes is Love”.

We can say that Love for the Sacred Heart of Jesus informs all of life, in the family, at work, in the availability to serve in the parish and towards those who need support or simply a smile or to be listened to.

By reading and meditating on the writings of the Founder and the First Mother, the laity have grasped and made their own the “triad” that characterizes the spirituality of the Congregation:

  • humility and evangelical smallness, typical of Jesus: “learn from me who am meek and humble of heart”
  • charity: the fuel that fuels friendship with God and commits us to carry out concrete gestures of service, solidarity and support towards the brothers of our community and also towards those further away
  • trust and abandonment in God, in Him who knows our name and our heart and knows how to instill courage and hope in moments of life’s choices and challenges.

Those who have known the person of Jesus in the adventure of faith and in the intimacy of the Eucharistic table, taste the joy possible on this earth and feel the desire to transmit it in order to reciprocate the gift of grace received. The lay family that passionately experienced the joy of the recent centenary of the religious Congregation, wants to keep alive the fire of the Founder's charism, an expression of his growing and ardent love for the Heart of Jesus, which he recommended "to love and lead to love". Therefore, the Lord also counts on us to help the men of our liquid society to rediscover the center of the Christian event, that is, the person of Jesus himself and "his open heart that awaits us without conditions, without demanding any prior requirement in order to be able to love us and offer us his friendship" (Dilexit nos, 1).
